Affirmative Prayer
When most people think of prayer, they think of asking God for something. Unity prayer is different. Affirmative prayer is empowering prayer. In Unity, prayer is affirmative rather than supplicatory.
Unity cofounder Charles Fillmore taught:
Prayer is more than supplication. It is an affirmation of Truth that eternally exists, but which has not yet come into consciousness. It comes into consciousness not by supplication but by affirmation.—The Revealing Word
We recognize that wholeness, abundance, and harmony are examples of ways we can describe the power of God. That power, we realize in prayer, is the power within us as well as around us. In prayer, we begin to see that we are therefore not powerless; in fact, we are powerfully able to cooperate with the ideal of wholeness, abundance, and harmony.
Myrtle Fillmore, whose practice of prayer led to the Unity methods, said:

An Affirmative Prayer for Meeting this Moment with Love
Divine Presence,
Source of Life expressing through all,
In moments when the world feels uncertain
and images of suffering weigh on our hearts,
we turn inward to remember the Truth.
We remember that beneath every nation,
every language, every belief,
there is One Life.
Where fear seeks to divide,
restore in us the awareness of Oneness.
Where anger rises, awaken compassion.
Where grief is present,
hold every heart in Your infinite Love.
Guide leaders toward wisdom.
Protect those who suffer.
Strengthen all who work for peace.
And in our own thoughts, words, and actions, teach us to live as instruments of healing.
We recognize that Understanding is more powerful than fear.
We are grateful that Love is actively reorganizing what unfolds next.
And so it is.
