Affirmative Prayer

When most people think of prayer, they think of asking God for something. Unity prayer is different. Affirmative prayer is empowering prayer. In Unity, prayer is affirmative rather than supplicatory.

Unity cofounder Charles Fillmore taught:

Prayer is more than supplication. It is an affirmation of Truth that eternally exists, but which has not yet come into consciousness. It comes into consciousness not by supplication but by affirmation.—The Revealing Word

We recognize that wholeness, abundance, and harmony are examples of ways we can describe the power of God. That power, we realize in prayer, is the power within us as well as around us. In prayer, we begin to see that we are therefore not powerless; in fact, we are powerfully able to cooperate with the ideal of wholeness, abundance, and harmony.

Myrtle Fillmore, whose practice of prayer led to the Unity methods, said:

This is our method of prayer: acknowledging our oneness with God, claiming the ability that this gives, and expecting to have the things needed and conducive to spiritual progress.—Myrtle Fillmore’s Healing Letters

Prayer of Empowerment

I gently breathe in the Love of Spirit and exhale all tension, releasing any burdens of the day. I allow my body, mind, and heart to soften and open. I enter into the stillness where Divine Truth is always present.

I center my awareness on the radiant Presence within me and within all beings. I turn inward to the Source of all Healing, Strength, and Wholeness. I let outer circumstances fade as I attune to Divine Wisdom, Compassion, and Power. In the sacred silence, I listen beyond the noise of the world.

I behold the Divine Spark in every being, especially in those who have been marginalized, overlooked, or oppressed. I enfold in Divine Comfort those who feel frightened or unwelcome. I affirm for them, and for myself:

I am Worthy, Wealthy, Well, and Whole.

I see their Worthiness as innate, their Wealth as the richness of Spirit, their Wellness as a Divine birthright, and their Wholeness as unbreakable Truth. I have Peace in the knowing that no external circumstance can diminish the eternal Light within each soul.

I realize that every being is an expression of Divine Life, imbued with infinite potential. I claim for all marginalized beings the full realization of their Divinity, their rightful Prosperity, their vibrant Health, and their sacred Wholeness. I see systems of oppression dissolving into systems of empowerment. I see doors opening, voices rising, and lives flourishing in the Light of Truth.

With profound gratitude, I give thanks for the unstoppable Divine Power at work in every life.
I am thankful for the healing, the liberation, the upliftment already unfolding. I am thankful that Spirit makes all things possible. I release this prayer to the activity of Divine Law, knowing it is already fulfilled.

And so it is. Amen.
