Affirmative Prayer
When most people think of prayer, they think of asking God for something. Unity prayer is different. Affirmative prayer is empowering prayer. In Unity, prayer is affirmative rather than supplicatory.
Unity cofounder Charles Fillmore taught:
Prayer is more than supplication. It is an affirmation of Truth that eternally exists, but which has not yet come into consciousness. It comes into consciousness not by supplication but by affirmation.—The Revealing Word
We recognize that wholeness, abundance, and harmony are examples of ways we can describe the power of God. That power, we realize in prayer, is the power within us as well as around us. In prayer, we begin to see that we are therefore not powerless; in fact, we are powerfully able to cooperate with the ideal of wholeness, abundance, and harmony.
Myrtle Fillmore, whose practice of prayer led to the Unity methods, said:
This is our method of prayer: acknowledging our oneness with God, claiming the ability that this gives, and expecting to have the things needed and conducive to spiritual progress.—Myrtle Fillmore’s Healing Letters

A Gratitude Prayer for Thanksgiving
I pause in this sacred moment.
I release the rush of the day and the worries of tomorrow.
With each breath, I enter into the Presence of God,
resting in the calm, loving center of my being.
I turn my attention to the One Presence and One Power,
God the Good, omnipotent.
This Presence is Life itself — the Source of all nourishment,
the Giver of every blessing, the Heart of every relationship.
In this stillness, I open my heart in gratitude.
Gratitude is more than polite words; it is spiritual power.
It restores my body, eases my mind, and awakens my soul.
Science affirms what Spirit reveals: gratitude brings healing and peace.
I look at this table, these faces, this moment —
and I give thanks for the gift of love made visible in community.
I give thanks for food that sustains,
for friends and family who uplift,
for the bonds that remind us that life’s true wealth is found in relationships.
Together we affirm:
“I am Worthy, Wealthy, Well, and Whole.”
And as I affirm this for myself, I affirm it for all people everywhere.
I realize now: every moment of thanks draws me nearer to Wholeness.
Every word of gratitude is a seed of abundance.
Every act of love deepens the good life we are called to live.
Gratitude is not dependent on circumstances —
it is the Divine Light shining through us,
healing, blessing, and renewing all things.
With joy overflowing, I give thanks:
for this meal, for this gathering, for this very breath.
I give thanks for the Love that weaves us together as One.
And I release this prayer into the activity of Divine Law,
knowing it is already fulfilled in Spirit.
And so it is.
Amen.
