You and Abundance: Living from Oneness

Abundance. It's a word that resonates with hope, possibility, and the deep desire for a life filled with more than just material wealth. In this blog, I'll share two powerful practices that can increase the flow of prosperity in your life, practices that have been proven time and again in my own experience.
My journey with abundance began long before I formally studied Unity principles. My husband, a Cuban refugee who rose from poverty to become a physician, has a remarkable gift for manifesting. From houses with pools and waterfront views to a home with mountain vistas, he has consistently demonstrated the power of a prosperity consciousness. His secret? He lives from the understanding, as Jesus taught, that he is worthy, wealthy, well, and whole. And this truth, my friends, is available to each and every one of us.
Money: More Than Just Currency
Let's start by reframing our understanding of money. Money, in itself, holds no real power. It's a representation, a currency of your life energy, the energy you exchange for goods and services in this 3D world. We all have feelings tied to money – how much we want, how we want to spend it. We earn it by expending our life energy, and where we direct that energy reflects our values. Feelings of lack around money often trigger fear and insecurity, as I myself experienced when my husband spoke of buying houses.
The truth, however, with a capital T, is that in the Oneness that is Unity's first principle, there is no lack. All the abundance of the Universe is you. The key is to remove the obstacles that block you from experiencing this inherent abundance. As Jesus said, "Your Father delights in giving you the kingdom." You are worthy, wealthy, well, and whole.
What Does Money Represent to You?
Think about this: a couple on a date, and the man jokes, "I forgot my wallet." How does that make you feel? Nervous? Embarrassed? Our reactions to this simple scenario can reveal a lot about our relationship with money. Studies show that money and children are among the top things couples argue about. Money is a significant stressor in modern life, often symbolizing deeper emotional needs like safety, security, or a sense of worth. When we identify with scarcity in these areas, it can manifest as "money troubles." We forget our true nature as divine beings, worthy, wealthy, well, and whole.
Unity author Eric Butterworth wisely wrote, "The whole Universe is on your side...When you get yourself centered in the Universal flow you become synchronized with this divine bias for good.” Nothing can oppose you when you remember the Oneness. What limiting thoughts are you carrying? "I can't," "They did this to me," "I don't have..." Our thoughts create our reality. Are you choosing thoughts of worthiness, wealth, wellness, and wholeness? As Pope Francis said, “To be happy is to stop feeling like a victim and become the author of your own fate.”
Preparing for Abundance: Forgiveness and Affirmations
How do we prepare to receive the abundance that is already ours? Two powerful tools are forgiveness and affirmations.
Forgiveness is about clearing the channel for divine flow. It’s about releasing the stories of the past that hold us back. Rosemary Fillmore Rhea, granddaughter of Unity's founders, wrote, “The first step in freeing ourselves from our painful yesterdays is to forgive ourselves… When we look at ourselves through the eyes of love, we see that every experience, every person has been a part of our souls' unfoldment.” Forgiveness isn't about condoning what happened; it's about releasing yourself from its grip. The past is an illusion; the present moment is all we truly have. Forgiveness replaces the false with the truth – the truth of Divine Love.
Once the channel is cleared, we direct the flow with our thoughts and words – through affirmations and denials. We boldly claim our divine birthright and deny scarcity. Like the Prodigal Son, who forgave himself and returned home to abundance, we too can realign ourselves with Divine flow. Let’s affirm together some words from Catherine Ponder:
"I am the radiant child of God, my mind, body and affairs now express his radiant perfection."
“Nothing can defeat me. I give thanks for the perfect, immediate right results. I rejoice that I am now successful in all my ways.”
“I am an irresistible magnet, with the power to attract unto myself everything that I divinely desire, according to the thoughts, feelings and mental pictures I constantly entertain and radiate.”
How do these affirmations resonate within you?
The Law of Circulation and Tithing
Eckhart Tolle reminds us, “Acknowledging the good that you already have in your life is the foundation for all abundance.” Gratitude is key. Now, let's explore the Law of Circulation: giving and receiving are two sides of the same coin. They must be balanced to unleash the flow of abundance.
This was powerfully demonstrated to my husband and me when we opened his medical practice. Even when our conscious minds screamed "save every penny," we continued to tithe, demonstrating our faith. All our needs were met, and we gave freely, expressing love and generosity. Receiving freely and gratefully completes the cycle.
Money represents our life energy. Where do you invest it? Does your spending reflect your values? If spiritual growth is a value, consider tithing. Tithing, giving one-tenth of your supply to your spiritual source, is a powerful act of faith and generosity. It acknowledges the Divine as your partner and demonstrates your trust in its abundant provision. As Charles Fillmore wrote, "Tithing brings into the consciousness a sense of divine order that is manifested in one’s outer life and affairs as increased efficiency and greater prosperity.” Tithing is an investment in your spiritual well-being and a recognition of the Divine as the true source of all abundance. It's not just about giving money; it's about consciously directing a portion of your life energy back to the source that nourishes you.
The Circle of Abundance
The prosperity process can be visualized as a circle: Alignment (through forgiveness), Generosity, Attracting, Receiving, and Gratitude, constantly cycling and renewing. My daughter Maria's story beautifully illustrates this. Fifteen years ago, our older dog left her fur body. Orestes and I declared that our family would not welcome a new companion animal for at least one year. Our children did not agree. When we visited Auntie Amy that summer, Maria volunteered to help her with her animal rescue organization. During that time, Jackie O was one of the pups that arrived, and Maria was able to convince Mom and Dad to bring her home. Maria’s desire for a new puppy, combined with her generosity in helping at an animal rescue, perfectly aligned her with the flow of abundance, attracting Jackie O into our lives.
Just as Maria and Jackie O embody the power of abundance, so do you. All the substance of the universe is available to you because you are One with it. "For in him we live and move and have our being."
Remember: You are worthy, wealthy, well, and whole!
